Labradoodle Information

You are probably not 100% sure what a Labradoodle even is. There is a lot of conflicting information available about Labradoodles.

They are bred in categories and we will try to answer most of the queries about F1 and F1B’s in this section.

Labradors and Standard Poodles are actually quite similar in some respects. The Labrador is a Gun Dog, and the Standard Poole is a Utility dog. They are both good retrievers and love the water. Their coats are naturally water resistant, so you will have water babies on your hands!

F1 - This is a first cross puppy ½ Labrador and ½ Poodle. This strain is thought to be the most healthy and benefit from the best genetics from both breeds. They have less chance of inheriting genetic diseases and usually inherit all the best traits from both parents. They also have a fantastic temperament, are very affectionate, easy to train and make the best family pet. F1’s are great with children and can easily cope with noisy households.

The Coat – The F1 puppy arrives with a variety of coats, just as your own children do! Some have the Labrador short smooth hair while others have the scruffy wavy look. The puppies will develop different coats as they grow older and most F1 coats will grow continue to grow in length and become scruffier as your dog grows into an adult.

The Benefits - The F1 has lower allergen levels than Labradors and most F1’s moult 50% less than a standard Labrador. The curlier the coat the less they moult. Luckily F1 coats won’t need clipping, just brushing now and again – so no difference to Labradors there. By crossing the two breeds, you are widening their gene pool and in fact making them healthier dogs.  The average life span of a Chocolate Labrador is 10-12 years however an F1 Labradoodle’s life span increases to 13-15 years.

Some Labradoodles are less allergenic to people but this is not guaranteed, it varies between each dog, so this is not a reason to buy a Labradoodle puppy.

The F1 Labradoodle is a first generation cross and the puppies will grow slightly taller than a Labrador but will be a lighter build and have a real spring in their step!

Male dogs grow a few inches taller than the females.

We feel F1’s make the best cross and that is what we are breeding – the benefits are so great that we are proud to be producing, happy, healthy, well balanced, loving, fantastic family pets.

F1B – This is an F1 bitch crossed with a Poodle, so would be ¾ Poodle, ¼ Labrador. They have great temperaments but might be better for a family with older children.

The Coat - This breeding will result in much curlier haired puppies and will lessen the amount of moulting even more. As they have more of the Poodle attributes, they will need more maintenance and regular clipping. If you allow their coats to grow unclipped they will become matted and smelly, so they are not ideal for muddy fields or dips in the sea!

The Benefits - Little or no moulting. Less allergenic but again not guaranteed.

All Labradoodles love human company and love to be touched. They are intelligent, sociable, loving and kind.
They are eager to please and their comical activities are sure to make you smile.
